Residents at The Grand Care Centre in West Bridgford, Nottingham, have enjoyed a vintage music session with a difference from award winning international cabaret artist and accredited musical therapist, Sadie.
With a degree in Musical Therapy and more than 20 years’ experience in musical theatre, cruise ship entertainment and cabaret, Sadie is well placed to deliver her stunning blend of structured musical performance and reminiscence theatre to a care home audience.
Her flawless voice and glamorous showgirl style make her one of the UK’s leading female performers and she delivered a magnificent set at The Grand; effortless vocals, incredible costume changes and a sensitivity, warmth and understanding of her elderly audience that enabled the residents to relax, reminisce and enjoy the performance.
Opened last year, The Grand is a state-of-the-art 82 bed care facility on Greythorn Drive. Residents and their families have been attracted by the company’s ethos of top quality, professional, person-centred care in an expertly designed, purpose-built comfortable environment. The musical therapy session perfectly illustrates The Grand’s focus on enablement, in facilitating an environment where the residents remain as independent as possible for as long as possible, continuing with many of the passions and pastimes that they enjoyed before going into care.
Group reservations manager at The Grand, Dawn Collett, commented: “Music is a wonderful therapy for our residents, enabling them to really relax for a couple of hours. It is also a great way to bring everyone together and encourage them to reminisce and share their memories without being too sad or sentimental. Sadie is a fabulous performer and she really took time to develop a set that met the needs of our residents.”
Pictured with Sadie are residents Arthur Lloyd and Joyce Parker. Arthur commented: “What an incredible afternoon. I haven’t been able to get to the theatre for many years – but Sadie’s solo show brought all the magic, glamour and sparkle to us and I enjoyed her performance immensely.”
