CHESTER CARE HOME CELEBRATES ITS FIRST ANNIVERSARY

December 3rd, 2019

To celebrate its first anniversary, Grosvenor Manor Care Centre, located on Heath Lane in Chester, hosted a magnificent Mary Poppins-themed party for residents and their relatives, as well as staff.

The birthday party was real community event, organised by Lisa Forth, the wellbeing coordinator at Grosvenor Manor.

Team members dressed up as characters from this well-loved film, with Lisa as Mary Poppins, Lynne Jarvis Hughes (wellbeing assistant) as Bert and Francesca Mykaela (wellbeing assistant) as Winifred Banks, whilst some residents also joined in wearing ‘votes for women’ sashes.

The Sheriff of Chester, Councillor Stuart Parker, also attended with the fun-filled day including live music from Bishops High School, a fancy-dress competition for children and a host of entertainers such as dancers from Noella Grace and music courtesy of ‘an evening with Anna Beaumont the Golden Age Song Bird’.

Meg, Grosvenor Manor’s therapy dog and her owner Susan Caddell were in attendance too and received the Harriet award from CRUFTS on the day (only six awarded in the country).

As requested by residents, a poignant balloon release also took place in memory of Barbara Wilcock, a Grosvenor Manor resident and a good friend who they lost suddenly.

With the sun shining, the chef opted for a BBQ and there was a mouth-watering three-tiered cake made by Les Steal from Innovative Cake Creations, and sweet table.

Lisa says: “We wanted to mark Grosvenor Manor’s first birthday with a very special event as we have such a wonderful community within the home, including both residents and staff.  It was a real celebration and such a fantastic day, enjoyed by all.

“The entertainers were superb and ensured the party was full swing throughout the day, the food was delicious and the live music amazing.”

Care home manager at Grosvenor Manor, Hayley Bebbington, adds: “We have enjoyed an incredible first year, welcoming residents, helping them settle into their new home and meeting their families.  We really wanted to celebrate this milestone with them, and I am so proud of Lisa and the team involved who planned, organised and managed the event.  It was a truly memorable day.”

Lisa concludes: “The party came together perfectly, and the laughter of the residents could be heard all day.  From seeing some of the staff dressed in Mary Poppins characters and watching local pupils perform, to tucking into cake, everything about the day was fun.”

Having been a resident at Grosvenor Manor for 12 months, Joan Hall, adds: “What a great day.  The sun was shining, and we had a super time.  It was a lovely see all the families together and a wonderful way to celebrate the home’s first birthday.”
