Dementia Awareness Week

31 May 2017

Run annually by the Alzheimer’s Society, Dementia Awareness Week takes place in May and is an opportunity to talk about dementia and raise awareness about the different aspects of this condition.  More than 800,000 people in the UK are living with dementia and it is estimated that an additional 400,000 people have dementia but do not know it*.  The Alzheimer’s Society believes that by increasing awareness about the illness, more people will be diagnosed earlier giving them more time to come to terms with future symptoms.

Renowned for its expert dementia care, the team at The Grand in Nottingham held a day of special activities during Dementia Awareness Week where family and friends of residents, both with and without dementia, were invited to join the fun that included performances from one of the residents’ favourite entertainers, Maverick, afternoon tea and fun with feather boas and the photo portrait frame.
